New Plans Filed To Redevelop Former Subway World Headquarters

May 27, 2023

MILFORD, CT — A new project is being proposed at the former Subway World Headquarters in Milford.

MaryRose Palumbo, Inland Wetlands Officer, said there are three applications for one project spanning the properties of 0, 305 and 325 Sub Way.

The proposed project is for constructing a 160,000-square-foot warehouse facility, office and associated parking with construction, grading, and stormwater within 150 feet of a wetland in the Beaver Brook Watershed.

"This is a complicated application, and we want to approach this without a predetermination," Brendan Magnan said, Inland Wetlands Agency chairman. "We want to understand the facts and what the options are."

Attorney Kevin Curseden, who represents the property owner, Robert Scinto, said the intended user of the project is FCP Euro.

"Hopefully, if we get the approvals, Robert will build it and lease it to them," he said. "We are hoping for the regulatory agencies in Milford to see it is a good project. We are trying to keep that Milford business in Milford.

FCP Euro was established in 1986 as a small brick-and-mortar auto parts store in Groton. In 2021 the business was transitioned to fully online parts sales. Their online parts catalog features over 19,000 Genuine, OE and OEM replacement parts, including Volvo, BMW, VW, Mercedes, Porsche and Saab parts for various top-quality manufacturers. In 2015, FCP Euro moved its headquarters to Milford. The facility is designed to support walk-in customers and collaboration between all team members.

A public hearing for the project is scheduled for Wednesday, June 21, at 7:30 p.m.,

"The public hearing was scheduled for this evening, but it had to be rescheduled due to a notification error," Palumbo said. "The applicants will present during the public hearing."

Palumbo said the plan proposes to fill in approximately 0.223 acres of wetland acting as a detention area, with mitigation and wetland creation proposed.

"They propose creating wetlands in the hardwood area," she said. "That is the alternative they have spoken of, but we do not have a draft yet."

Palumbo said that once the Inland and Wetland Agency opens the hearing on the 21st, they have 65 days to close the hearing and have that time to make a decision, or they can ask for a time extension.

In February 2023, Subway officials announced they were considering a possible sale of the company.

Subway is based in Milford but is planning to move its headquarters to Shelton this spring. Some of the company's consumer-facing departments moved to Miami in 2021.
